Arrive in Tanzania
You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Karama Lodge , you will meet your guide who will brief you on your upcoming trek and do an equipment check to make sure you have all the necessary mountain gear. Gear which is missing can be rented on this day. Overnight at Karama Lodge (or alternative).

The Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is one of the most popular and easiest routes to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. The route is well-maintained and offers hut accommodations, making it a great option for those who prefer a more comfortable and supported climb. Here’s a detailed overview of a 6-day Marangu Route trek:
Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

* Elevation gain: 1,200 m
* Time: 5-6 hours
The climb begins at the Marangu Gate, which is located at an altitude of 1,860 m. The trail winds through lush rainforest and farmland, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The first day’s hike ends at Mandara Hut, which is located at an altitude of 2,700 m.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
* Distance: 10 km
* Elevation gain: 500 m
* Time: 4-5 hours
The second day’s hike continues through the rainforest, but the vegetation becomes more sparse as the altitude increases. The trail passes through a beautiful heathland and moorland, offering breathtaking views of the mountain. The day ends at Horombo Hut, which is located at an altitude of 3,720 m.
Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

* Elevation gain: 1,000 m
* Time: 5-6 hours
The third day’s hike is a challenging one, as the trail gains altitude quickly. The hike passes through alpine desert and scree, offering stunning views of the mountain and the surrounding landscape. The day ends at Kibo Hut, which is located at an altitude of 4,700 m.
Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Kibo Hut

The fourth day is an acclimatization day, which is essential for adjusting to the high altitude. The day can be spent exploring the surrounding area, taking short walks, or simply resting and acclimatizing.
Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

* Time: 6-8 hours
The final day’s hike begins early in the morning, as the climb to Uhuru Peak requires a long and challenging ascent. The trail passes through glaciers and scree, offering breathtaking views of the mountain and the surrounding landscape. The day ends at Horombo Hut, where hikers can rest and celebrate their successful climb.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

The final day of the trek begins with a descent through the rainforest, passing through the same scenic landscapes as the first day. The trail ends at the Marangu Gate, marking the end of the climb.
