LAKE CHALA is a beautiful crater on the eastern side of MT.KILIMANJARO, on the border with kenya. The lake is fed by groundwater flows, which come from Mt. Kilimanjaro. It’s a little known and new destination in Tanzania and is a lovely place to go for a picnic fit visitor’s can climb down the steep slopes to the water’s edge. The lake changes colour depending on the sky, where you are observing it from and the time of year. It can change from turquoise, deep blue to green. Wonderful.

    LAKE CHALA is a spectacular (“hidden”-you don’t see it until you are right at the top of the cliffs overlooking it) crater lake about 35 kms from the Marangu. Again, a trip there can be arranged easily on the spot. The lake straddles the TANZANIA – Kenya border.
