OVERVIEW

Mafia Island is a peaceful retreat adventure in the see with diving, snorkeling and whale shark watching.

This is an excellent marine getaway with the opportunity to  relax on the beautiful Mafia beaches.  This holiday is suitable for families and as an add on to a mainland big game safari.

Swimming with whale sharks is one of the best experiences Mafia Island has to offer. Whale Sharks are the largest fish in the ocean and their docile and curious nature make them a pleasure to swim with.

It is a lifetime experience that you cannot miss. The best season begins from October to end of February when the “Dominos” (nickname for the Whale Sharks) unite themselves in the bay to eat plankton and prepare for the way back.

Our tour will leaves daily at 7am (you will be picked up from your hotel at 6.30am) and will take between 2-5 hours. Whale sharks are wild animals so there is no guarantee that we will find them. Around 80% of our tours find whale sharks. In the case that we do not see them, you can return to do another tour with us at the reduced rate of $50

FULL DAY: SNORKELLING, SANDBANK LUNCH, LAGOON – $$

Enjoy Mafias rich coral with a snorkelling excursion. We might spot octopus, moray eels, turtles and seahorse. We will then go to a secluded sand bank (which only appears for a few hours each day) for a local BBQ lunch and some time to relax! In the afternoon you will visit one of Mafia Islands hidden secrets, the beautiful lagoon on a hidden island.

Included in the price; pick up and drop off from your lodge, snorkelling gear, BBQ lunch, shade on the sandbank, water and an experienced captain and guide.

FULL DAY: SNORKELLING, SANDBANK LUNCH, Chole ISLAND – $$$

We might spot octopus, moray eels, turtles and seahorse. We will then go to a secluded sand bank for a local BBQ lunch and some time to relax! In the afternoon you will visit Chole Island where you will do a gentle walking tour. You will go to the ruins, see how the locals live, see how the traditional dhows are made and also the resident Flying Fox bats (the worlds largest bats!)

We genuinely LOVE the whale sharks. We treat them with respect and do not use aggressive or harmful tactics.

ITINERARY:

Day 1: FLY  ARUSHA, DAR ES SALAAM, ZANZIBAR TO MAFIA ISLAND MARINE PARK

On arrival you will be met at the airport transferred to your excellent hotel on the beach.

DAY  2.- 4: FULL DAYS IN MAFIA ISLAND

Enjoy diving, swimming with whale sharks or just relax on the white sand, as you prefer.

DAY 5: FLY BACK TO   DAR ES SALAAM,  ZANZIBAR, KILIMANJARO .

This is a superb chance to see the whale sharks and to visit Mafia Island Marine Park.   This trip is suitable for children and for adults.    Though there are permanent residents some of the whale sharks migrate.  This means that there are some times of year when you will have a better chance of seeing more whale sharks.
